Veneers

Over the past five years, the number of people receiving dental veneers increased over 250%. That's due, in part, to the fact that more than 99% of Americans realize that a smile is a valuable social asset and nearly 3/4 of those believe that an unattractive smile interferes with success. If you want to improve your smile with veneers, call or make an appointment online today with Dr. Kamran Rafie and Dr. Shadi Khoshbin at the Granada Hills Dental Group in Granada Hills, California

Veneers Q & A

Granada Hills Dental Group

What are veneers?

Veneers bond to your tooth's original enamel to improve the tooth's appearance.

Veneers can serve other purposes, too. For example, they can modify the shape, color, and size of your teeth to create a more natural look while leaving the original teeth relatively intact. Dr. Rafie and Dr. Khoshbin can also use veneers to close spaces and gaps between your teeth.

Veneers are typically made of porcelain because it provides strength and resilience that's similar to natural tooth enamel. It's often the material of choice for those who want to make slight position alterations or to change a tooth's shape, size, or color.

What happens when you get veneers?

The process of getting veneers takes two appointments.

At the first appointment, a technician at Granada Hills Dental Group takes X-rays of your teeth. Then, either Dr. Rafie or Dr. Khoshbin trim a small amount of your tooth’s enamel to prepare your mouth for the veneers.

They then send a mold of your teeth to a lab, where technicians will manufacture your permanent veneer. In the meantime, they place a temporary veneer on your tooth.

Once the laboratory delivers the veneer, Dr. Rafie or Dr. Khoshbin removes the temporary veneer and cleans your tooth. They then etch, rinse, and air dry the permanent veneer. They then place adhesive and cement on the tooth along with the veneer.

Either Dr. Rafie or Dr. Khoshbin then light cures your veneer for one minute on all surfaces to attach it to your tooth’s structure. They then remove the excess material and polish the margins of the veneer.

Drs.Rafie and Khoshbin check for comfort at your follow-up visit a few weeks after the procedure to ensure that your veneers are properly placed. The more comfortable your veneer, the longer it lasts.

How do you care for veneers?

The dentists at Granada Hills Dental recommend brushing and flossing your veneer in the same manner as your regular teeth. By maintaining proper oral hygiene and limiting your consumption of coffee and other stain-inducing foods, you can enable your veneers to last as long as possible.
